The baritone Ivo Yordanov is born in Varna, Bulgaria in 1980 (age 38). He graduated in 2006 from the State Music Academy in the class of Ass. Prof. Christina Anghelakova and later specialised at the Academy Boris Christoff in Rome under Mirella Parutto and Antonio Boyer and then at the Opera Studio of Santa Cecilia Academy under Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton.
Ivo represented Bulgaria at the 2007 edition of the BBC Cardiff “Singer of the World” Competition and being a prize winner of International Singing Competition “Comunita Europea” 2009 in Spoleto, he performed for two seasons as part of Teatro Lirico Sperimentale, gaining experience from other prize winners of the Competition such as Sonia Ganassi, Mariella Devia, Renato Bruson.
Performing in theaters and concert venues across the globe, his repertory contains, among others, the parts of Germont in Verdi’s “Traviata”, Lord Ashton in Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and Belcore in “L’Elisir d’Amore”, Eugene in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”, Igor in Borodin’s “Prince Igor”, Sonora in Puccini’s “La fanculla dal West”, Escamilo in Bizet’s “Carmen”, Michonnet in Cilea’s “Adraina Lecouvreur” and the baritone parts of many oratorial works, including Orff’s „Carmina Burana” and Handel’s “Messiah”.
Apart form the operatic repertory, he maintains a big selection of chamber repertory including works by Schumann and Schubert, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Britten and Manuel de Falla. Starting season 2019/2020, Ivo is a full time member of his hometown’s Varna Opera Theatre.
