Being one of the most important pianists of his generation in Turkey, Born June 6, 1996, in Ankara / Turkey, Mertol Demirelli started his career very young, playing at Carnegie Hall thanks to the prize he obtained in the competition of IBLA at the age of 7, opening the 35th Istanbul Music Festival with Idil Biret at the age of 10, and finally continuing with concerts in Moscow with Vladimir Spivakov‘s project, at the age 11.
Having completed his studies at Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel after six years of the course, he is currently continuing his studies at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne with famous pianist and conductor Ricardo Castro in the site of Fribourg, Switzerland.
In his academic career, after completing his studies in Turkey with Oya Ünler, he had the chance to work and collaborate with internationally known pianists such as Abdel Rahman El Bacha and Maria João Pires and regular masterclasses with Dmitry Bashkirov in Belgium. He also took master classes with Fazil Say, Idil Biret, Jean Claude van der Eynden, Edna Golansky, Pietro De Maria.
In June 2019, he won second prize at the Ile de France international piano competition in Paris. In artistic season 2019-2020, he performed in several important cities, including Rome, Paris, Brussels, Firenze. In March 2020, he performed L. van Beethoven’s fourth concerto in Salvador de Bahia / Brazil, as part of his 250th anniversary with the string quintet of Fiesole and Maestro Eduardo Rosadini. In October 2020, he performed the 20th concerto of W.A.Mozart at the BCV Hall in Lausanne, Switzerland as part of his master soloist, resulting from a collaboration between the students of the Haute Ecole de Musique de Vaud-Valais-Friborg and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Nicolas Chalvin, an exclusively digital concert because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his artistic career, Mertol has already collaborated with orchestras such as Sinfonia Varsovia, Borusan Philarmonie d’Istanbul, the Orchester Chambre de Wallonie, Kaunas Symphonie, NEOJIBA with conductors Augustin Dumay, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Ricardo Castro, Roberto Gianola, Gürer Aykal, Rengim Gökmen. The concert he performed in November 2011, with the Turkish Youth Orchestra under the baton of Cem Mansur in Munich performing Franz Liszt Concerto No. 1 at the age of 15, was broadcast by Radio Bavarian (ARD). He has already participated in several important festivals in his artistic career such as Flagey Music Chapel Festival, Beloeil, Vexin, The Istanbul Music Festival, and the Antalya Piano Festival. He also performed the preview of W.A. Mozart’s concerto for violin and piano KV Anh. 56 (315f) with Liya Petrova on violin, conducted by Augustin Dumay in Flagey / Brussels
Also Mertol, following his goal of becoming a complete musician, continued his studies of “direction from the keyboard” in Firenze, in “Scuola Música de Fiesole” with Ricardo Castro.
